Landmark Forum

08.31.03 (8:42 am)   [edit]
My girlfriend is attending a Landmark Forum this weekend at the behest of her employer. The landmark forum is a form of group therapy that's supposed to increase your awareness about yourself and your relationships with others.

So far, it seems like a total scam. They're feeding off of peoples' insecurities and fears and convincing them that they can't truly heal unless they sign up their friends for this $400 seminar.

What a bunch of hooey. Thankfully, my girlfriend is a reasonable person and is just politely sitting through the tortuous all-day seminars.

Anyone else heard of or done something like this?

It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)

08.29.03 (9:44 am)   [edit]
That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs.
Feed it off an aux speak, grunt, no, strength, Ladder start to clatter with fear fight down height.
Wire in a fire, representing seven games, a government for hire and a combat site.
Left of west and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck.
Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered cropped.
Look at that low playing! Fine, then.
Uh oh, overflow, population, common food, but it'll do.
Save yourself, serve yourself.
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed dummy with the rapture and the revered and the right, right.
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign towers.
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn.
Locking in, uniforming, book burning, blood letting.
Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate.
Light a candle, light a votive. Step down, step down.
Watch your heel crush, crushed, uh-oh, this means no fear cavalier.
Renegade steer clear!
A tournament, tournament, a tournament of lies.
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I dreamt of knives, continental drift divide.
Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam book neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it. can't I have some time alone?
It's the end of the world as we know it can't I have some time alone? and I feel fine...fine...

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it. can't I have some time alone?

Straight Eye for the Queer Guy

08.29.03 (8:40 am)   [edit]
Posted originally as a comment on Sulkbrarian's Blog:

GQ has a short article this month quizzing you about which reality shows are real and which are fake. Among the fake: STRAIGHT EYE FOR THE QUEER GUY.

Their description: "...hetero schlubs take gay men to Philadelphia Flyers games, Chili's and L.L. Bean."

Hilarious. But I don't get it? What's wrong with LL Bean?

Someone got beat up a lot as a kid...

14 year old conservative pundit Kyle Williams has a book out. Among his choice lines, "I have wished the entire western seaboard would fall off into the Pacific Ocean."

I think someone's got quite a few more beatings yet to come.

Same ol' Shuttle different day

08.27.03 (8:19 pm)   [edit]
Masochists out there have been reading about the Shuttle Report which goes into the various reasons behind the shuttle disaster.

The report heavily criticizes NASA for it's "company culture" which says that they let down their guard when they aren't working hard to innovate. Read: NASA folks are lazy when they do nothing but the same ol' same ol.

NO KIDDING. NASA's culture is no different than any corporation that is filled with human beings. We get lazy when things don't change.

I can't believe so much effort went into such a silly report.

Sharks

08.26.03 (9:15 pm)   [edit]
So a shark killed a woman last week off the beaches of San Luis Obispo and then a fisherman saw a shark in the same area 400 yards from shore. Beaches are closed and people as far south as LA are afraid to go in the water (some of them at least).

Now on TV there's Discovery Channel's "SHARK WEEK" and that show "RED WATER" which basically contribute to and feed off of our fear of sharks.

Should we really be afraid?

BTW, the woman who was killed was swimming with seals at the time.

Less $$ than running for CA governor

Karma: good or bad

08.24.03 (12:13 pm)   [edit]
commented to a friend on thursday while surfing: "I've never been hit by my board."

saturday, got sliced across the knuckles by the fin of my board and needed stitches.

just got health insurance for the first time in a year last week, so the stitches are paid for.

so I ask you...good karma or bad?

"You seem like an REM type of guy"

08.20.03 (10:17 pm)   [edit]
So your friend and mine, Rocky, told me today that I seemed like an REM type of guy. This is okay with me, since REM is my favorite band. But what was Rocky really saying?

a) When you speak, you're nonsensical and vaguely political
b) You're bisexual
c) Your ability to change with the times is impressive
d) something else...

Discuss.
